    Big Creek State Forest
    This 1,200 acre state forest offers hiking, primitive camping and picnicking activities. Hunting (shotgun, long bow and muzzle loading firearms) and fishing are permitted in season. Big Creek Forest is located one mile west of Kirksville on West Michigan Street.

    Thousand Hills State Park
    Thousand Hills State Park is located 2 miles west of Kirksville on Highway 6, in the green hills of Northeast Missouri. This 3,252 acre park surrounds the 573 acre Forest Lake, which provides swimming, motor boating, sailing, water skiing, paddle boating and fishing. Campers are welcome at 101 campsites. Visitors may picnic in the open air or in enclosed shelters.
